A Long Walk 04:12
Founded in Seventeen Seventy Six Between the Seventh Inning Stretch and The Seven Year Itch As the Seven Nation Army plays all of the hits Seventy Six Trombones will blow the opening pitch So little girl what brings you to this country of ours Is your head in the clouds, is your eyes on the stars As you go for a ride in a new foreign car To tour through the streets 'til you find the next bar And you just can’t stop once the taste hits your lips All your friends watch as you wade in past your hips Now your family back home tries to get you a grip They all just wish that you’d snap out of it Well, you don’t know what you’re doing Can’t you see that you’re in way above your head Despite what you might think And you don’t know what you’re saying You thought you’d found a friend to lend a hand But, it's a long walk for a short drink Yes, I'm a long walk for a short drink Be careful, my dear, this town likes you best on your knees But once you learn how to kneel it can be easy to please In the home of the brave and the land of the free Where the rich are entitled and the poor are appeased So little girl what brings you to this city of mine I hope you’re ready to hide all the riches you find Cause everything around you turns on a dime And you must pawn your watch just to be given the time And you just can’t stop once the taste hits your lips All your friends watch as you wade in past your hips Now your family back home tries to get you a grip They all just wish that you’d snap out of it Well, you don’t know what you’re doing Can’t you see that you’re in way above your head Despite what you might think And you don’t know what you’re saying You thought you’d found a friend to lend a hand But, it's a long walk for a short drink Well, you just can’t stop once the taste hits your lips All your friends watch as you wade in past your hips Now your family back home tries to get you a grip They all just wish that you’d snap out of it Well, you don’t know what you’re doing Can’t you see that you’re in way above your head Despite what you might think And you don’t know what you’re saying You thought you’d found a friend to lend a hand But, it's a long walk for a short drink Yes, I'm a long walk for a short drink Yes, you're a long walk from a short drink

Witch Hat 04:33
She smelled like Florida water and potpourri With just a hint of four thieves vinegar She stroked her amulet and clutched her gris gris As she chanted aloud from her grimoire Now the rat king dances in the parlor The candelabra dwindles low And Anastasia calls on John the Conqueror Then says a prayer to Madame Laveau With every new face this woman reveals I lose another little piece of my mind Still she always keeps me wand’rin’ Which hat… she gonna wear… this time How could I have missed it That voodoo/hoodoo lurking in those eyes Now she has me trapped in this Sisyphean struggle To climb her endless mountain of lies Well, she’s “awful, pompous, and art-i-fi-cial” But even Medusa, the hideous Gorgon, Started life as a beautiful girl With every new face this woman reveals I lose another little piece of my mind Still she always keeps me wand’rin’ Which hat… she gonna wear… this time So she fixed me up a potion Of honey, sulfur, and jimson weed If I could not sidestep the fetish of her sympathetic magic I knew I would ultimately burn in effigy Outside her window, a murder of crows gathered By the cemetery gate As I gazed upon that marble orchard I plotted my escape With every new face this woman reveals She takes another little piece of my mind Still she always keeps me wand’rin’ Which hat… she gonna wear… this time

I could tell you that I miss you but you’ve heard that song before I could tell you to come home, but you already closed that door I could tell you how it feels to be on my own again I would say it feels the same but this time it’s different ... this time it's different. I could tell you it was my fault – that you were right and I was wrong I could tell you how I kick myself for writing you into a song I could tell you how it feels to be on my own again I would say I feel the same but this time I’m different ... this time I'm different. Don’t tell me it meant nothing or that you never cared When neither you nor I can define exactly what we shared And if we just can’t apply any language that we’ve learned To help us understand something we never even heard Then I guess I’ll call it love, though you made me hate that word Then I guess I’ll call it love, though you made me hate that... I can tell you weren’t ready to hear me say it first I can tell I moved too quickly, didn’t prepare for the worst I can tell I was impatient every step of the way I can tell that sometimes there is nothing one can say ... nothing one can say. I can tell the distance cost us everything we earned I can tell I sabotaged us by insisting you could learn I can tell you were indifferent every step of the way I can tell that sometimes there is nothing I can say ... nothing I can say. At least there's always hope, we can learn to love that word

Upwelling 06:25
The mineral crust on the sea bed Triggers the bloom turns the deep red All you can think as the tide ebbs: Is the upwelling will soon begin Now that she's gone, don't the tears flow Watch your whole life paid out in escrow Thought you knew her, what did you know That wasn’t buried in the sand No ship shall be saved 'neath the crest of this mighty wave As the water claims everywhere to run The scales of justice are bent at the fulcrum Now those sent to an early grave Disembark as their song is played Crying "Nearer my god to thee" They're all ships lost in an endless sea After you salvage what's left on the outside Leaving nothing behind but a grave site, Hoping to fetch a higher price, You turn to the wreck itself Each scar is a lesson in conquest Terrifying view from the crow's nest Now you're barreling down towards a slow death… with your engines … full stream ahead No ship shall be saved 'neath the crest of this mighty wave As the water claims everywhere to run The scales of justice are bent at the fulcrum Now those sent to an early grave Disembark as their song is played Crying "Nearer my god to thee" They're all ships lost in an endless sea You just polished off a bottle of single malt Feel you can leap ten fields in a single vault Soon enough you'll come crashing down Ten miles away in another town The depths are a place for no man Watch them drain the life from your cold hands As nature claims back the halls that were once grand As it strips them down to bone, you know the time has come To send the final distress call No ship shall be saved 'neath the crest of this mighty wave As the water claims everywhere to run The scales of justice are bent at the fulcrum Now those sent to a watery grave Rise again as their song is played Crying "Nearer my god to thee" They're two souls lost in an endless sea
